The British Prime Minister Andy Burnham has opened the door to the possibility of his country returning to the EU’s freedom of movement rules, confirming that the continued exclusion of this option will not be a red line in future negotiations.
The British newspaper “Sunday Times” reported today (Sunday) that Burnham stated the nature of immigration to the United Kingdom has changed since Britain left the EU, with a larger number of immigrants now seeking permanent residency instead of returning to their home countries.
He emphasized the necessity of having a realistic discussion based on evidence regarding immigration policies and freedom of movement, indicating his openness to reconsidering Britain’s stance on the European rules governing the movement of individuals.
These statements come amid the ongoing debate about the future of relations between Britain and the EU following the United Kingdom’s exit from the bloc.
