Copper prices on the London Metal Exchange rose during trading today (Friday), heading towards recording their strongest weekly gains in nearly three months, supported by concerns over supply shortages and a decline in available inventories outside the United States.

The red metal is on track to record a gain of 2.5% this week, marking the highest weekly increase since May 8, after it reached its highest level in six months at $14,369.5 per ton yesterday.

The rise followed the Democratic Republic of Congo’s ban on copper concentrate exports, which heightened concerns about global supplies amid declining inventories and ongoing production disruptions.

Copper inventories available on the London Metal Exchange fell to 92,900 tons, the lowest level since January, while they rose on the COMEX in the U.S. for the thirty-fourth consecutive day to 654,500 tons.
