The novel (The Book of Exodus) by the author, engineer Abdullah bin Awda Al-Ghabin, suggests the alienation of contemporary man and the intersection of his circumstances, even as the faces, features, and names of the characters vary, and the geography of living differs, making life a journey in search of a lost self.

The author migrates with his heroes; the first character launches from the Moroccan city of Marrakech, as (Allal) falls from the bridge, and his body embarks on a journey of suffering that ends in a coma in a hospital. From his consciousness, the character (Bashir) is born, who finds himself in (Karachi), as if (Allal)’s coma opened a door to fantasy, allowing souls to travel to 19 cities around the world, and transferring the movement of the migrating body to the being in a hospital of experiments and images, through successive flashes that shed light on the suffering of beings; some possess yet do not rejoice, while others rejoice despite having nothing, except for acceptance and contentment with what is allotted.

The novel takes us to the cities of Congo, Rio de Janeiro, Bangkok, Saigon, Pyongyang, Hong Kong, Chad, Istanbul, Naples, Haiti, Mexico, Zurich, London, Hiroshima, Silicon Valley, Iceland, and Sudan, and the character returns once again to Allal from Marrakech, to prove that the journey back is harder than the journey out, and that in getting to know human experiences, there is enough to be content with in this world, and to search for a window to depart.
