The Saudi Community Jameel Foundation concluded the ninth edition of the Start Smart competition during a ceremony held at the LEAP 2026 stage in the MIlham Events Center in the Riyadh region. The event witnessed the announcement of four winners from a total of 40 entrepreneurial ideas participating for valuable cash prizes, in addition to other valuable benefits such as technical and artistic mentorship, marketing support, media exposure opportunities, connections with support and investment entities, and joining the Start Smart network, which qualifies them to benefit from many other advantages. The event also marked the launch of the tenth edition of the competition with a new model targeting Saudi startups in four main tracks.
The ninth edition of the competition was held in partnership with the National Program for Information Technology Development, the Digital Leadership Center at the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (Code), and the award provider, Al-Safi World Foundation. It targeted Saudi entrepreneurs with innovative entrepreneurial ideas in their early stages, in the fields of technology and artificial intelligence. The competition attracted over 1,000 entries from various cities and regions of the Kingdom, before selecting the best 40 entrepreneurial ideas to join an intensive two-month training program, which focused on helping participants develop their ideas and turn them into prototypes of technology products that employ artificial intelligence techniques, alongside developing the necessary skills and knowledge to build projects. This included market entry strategies, expansion, marketing, operations, and financial management, enhancing the readiness of projects to transition from the idea stage to more advanced stages.
During the ceremony, the winners of the top positions were announced, namely: the “Nazra” platform in first place, which specializes in analyzing health data to predict the risks of non-communicable diseases and support early prevention and decision-making; the “Findligent” platform, which won second place, is a retail platform that combines smart machines and the digital market to personalize the product discovery experience and transform stores into smart, measurable, and scalable experiences; the “Apulobite” platform, which won third place, is a cloud platform that integrates visual design with programming logic to enable engineers to design, price, and calculate the costs and feasibility of products quickly and accurately; and the “Jama’a” platform, which won third place again, is a collaborative commerce platform that relies on group buying to aggregate orders and negotiate with suppliers to reduce costs and improve purchasing efficiency.
In this context, Mr. Mohammed Abdulghaffar, Executive Director of Initiatives at the Saudi Community Jameel Foundation, commented: “Since the launch of the Start Smart competition in 2016, we have sought to empower Saudi entrepreneurs to develop their ideas and turn them into scalable projects through training, mentorship, and connecting them with the expertise and resources they need in the early stages of their entrepreneurial journey. With the evolution of the entrepreneurship ecosystem in the Kingdom, the competition has evolved to meet the needs of entrepreneurs, focusing its ninth edition on technology and artificial intelligence, aiming to support tech entrepreneurs in the Kingdom. This evolution reflects our commitment at Community Jameel Saudi Arabia to continue developing empowerment tools that align with market developments and contribute to building Saudi companies capable of growth and creating a tangible economic and social impact.”
In line with the needs of the Saudi market and the objectives of Vision 2030, the tenth edition of the Start Smart competition will focus on empowering entrepreneurs with startups through four tracks selected based on developmental priorities and the needs of vital sectors in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia: the health track, the environmental track, the industrial track, and social entrepreneurship. Through this model, Start Smart aims to develop existing business models, enhance the readiness of companies for growth, and connect them with available opportunities in the targeted sectors.
