حالة الطقس 
تُعد الرّواية من الأقسام الأدبية التي تتعامل مع التاريخ، وتتخذ منه موضوعاً ومساراً لها في بعض أقسامها، فالتاريخ مادة مُنسابة في شتى العلوم والآداب ومرتبطٌ بها، ومتفاعل وإياها، ولما كان أحد تعريفات التاريخ أنه «السعي لإدراك الماضي البشري وإحيائه»؛ فإن الرواية تسعى لإحياء ذلك الماضي بإعادة كتابتِهِ وفق المتخيل الروائي داخل سردية الماضي التي تُسهم في فهمه -أي الماضي- والاستفادة منه في فهم الحاضر، ورؤية المستقبل إلى حدٍ ما.
ولما كانت الرّواية أحد أبرز تجليات الحراك الأدبي والثقافي في المملكة اليوم، تأتي رواية «فيلق الإبل» للمبدع أحمد السماري كإحدى أهم الروايات حضوراً هذه الأيام محلياً وعربياً؛ لما تحمله من بُعد تاريخي وحضاري للمملكة، وإبراز دور تجار العقيلات وقدرتهم العجيبة على إيصال تجارتهم إلى جهات عالمية بعيدة؛ حيث قفز مجموعة من السعوديين (سليمان، مناور، علي السالم، وعدد من الرُّعاة البدو) من فيافي نجد وقراها إلى الولايات المتحدة الأمريكية في عام 1863 تقريباً كتجار للإبل، حاملين معهم مصائرهم وطموحاتهم في مغامرة مذهلة ومحزنة في بعض جوانبها! وذلك عندما فكرت القيادة الأمريكية بإنشاء «فيلق الإبل» للمساعدة في نقل الإمدادات للجيش الأمريكي أثناء الحرب الأهلية.
اخترقت هذه الرواية الجانب النفسي للقارئ من خلال نصوصها النابضة، ومشاهدها الخيالية المثيرة للأحداث التاريخية، بصورة فنية تجاوزت مسألة التوثيق إلى تجارب إنسانية مؤثرة تشق طريقها بهدوء للخلود في الذاكرة التاريخية الوطنية؛ كونها تناولت حدثاً تاريخياً مهماً تمثَّل في تقديم صورة من تجارب العقيلات ومعاونيهم التي لا تخلو من مخاطر، ومغامرات غير متوقعة آنذاك، وبأسلوبٍ وقلمٍ فيّاض ومُذهل جعل القارئ يغوص ويتعايش معها نفسياً، وتاريخياً عبر تفاصيلها الغارقة بالأنسنة، والواقعية، والعاطفية، ناهيك عن المنعطفات، والروابط السردية الجميلة التي خلقها المؤلف في المراحل والأدوار المختلفة لشخوص الرواية زمانياً ومكانياً.
ومن هذا المنطلق وفي ظِل الحراك الثقافي النشط في المملكة اليوم بقيادة وزارة الثقافة، حيث تجاوز الأدب كونه عملاً فنياً أو معرفياً أو إبداعياً إلى كونه رافداً حيوياً من روافد الاقتصاد والاستثمار في إطار رؤية المملكة 2030؛ لذلك أصبح لِزاماً على المسؤولين عن الاستثمار الثقافي في المملكة النظر إلى هذه الرواية وتحويلها إلى مورد اقتصادي قابل للاستثمار، وتوظيفها وبشكلٍ عاجل في الاقتصاد الثقافي المحلي، والسعي إلى نشرها إقليمياً وعالمياً لما تحمله من بُعد تاريخي وحضاري عميق للمملكة وأثر رجالها الفاعل تاريخياً في المحيط العربي، وحضورهم بصورة ناجحة ومميزة بعيداً عن النظرة النمطية المغلوطة والمشوشة، كما أنها تمثل بداية التواصل الحضاري والثقافي بين المملكة والولايات المتحدة.
إن الصورة الفنية لرواية «فيلق الإبل» وسهولة صياغتها في إطار سيناريو فني، وتفعيل آلية «التحويل الفني» وتحويلها من الورق إلى شاشات التلفزة والسينما، والفضاء الرقمي، يُعدُّ استثماراً ناجحاً من ناحية المبدأ، بل إنه يُسرّع من عجلة الاستثمار في الرواية السعودية.
The novel is one of the literary sections that deals with history, taking it as a subject and a path in some of its sections. History is a flowing material in various sciences and literature, interconnected and interactive with them. Since one of the definitions of history is “the pursuit of understanding and reviving human past”; the novel seeks to revive that past by rewriting it according to the narrative imagination within the narrative of the past, which contributes to understanding it – that is, the past – and benefiting from it in understanding the present and seeing the future to some extent.
As the novel is one of the most prominent manifestations of literary and cultural movement in the Kingdom today, the novel “The Camel Corps” by the creative Ahmad Al-Samari comes as one of the most significant novels present these days locally and Arabically, due to its historical and civilizational dimension for the Kingdom, highlighting the role of the Al-Oqaylat traders and their incredible ability to reach their trade to distant global destinations. A group of Saudis (Sulaiman, Manawer, Ali Al-Salem, and several Bedouin herders) jumped from the deserts of Najd and its villages to the United States of America around 1863 as camel traders, carrying with them their destinies and ambitions in a remarkable and sometimes sad adventure! This was when the American leadership considered establishing the “Camel Corps” to assist in transporting supplies to the American army during the Civil War.
This novel penetrated the psychological aspect of the reader through its vibrant texts and its imaginative scenes that evoke historical events, in an artistic manner that transcended the issue of documentation to impactful human experiences that quietly carve their way into the national historical memory; as it addressed an important historical event represented in presenting a picture of the experiences of the Al-Oqaylat and their assistants, which were fraught with dangers and unexpected adventures at that time, with a style and a flowing, astonishing pen that made the reader dive and psychologically coexist with it, historically through its details soaked in humanization, realism, and emotion, not to mention the twists and beautiful narrative links that the author created in the various stages and roles of the characters in the novel, temporally and spatially.
From this standpoint, and in light of the active cultural movement in the Kingdom today led by the Ministry of Culture, where literature has transcended being merely an artistic, cognitive, or creative work to becoming a vital tributary of the economy and investment within the framework of Vision 2030; it has thus become imperative for those responsible for cultural investment in the Kingdom to look at this novel and transform it into an economically viable resource, urgently employing it in the local cultural economy, and striving to publish it regionally and globally for its deep historical and civilizational dimension for the Kingdom and the impactful role of its men historically in the Arab sphere, and their successful and distinctive presence away from the distorted and confused stereotypical view, as it also represents the beginning of cultural and civilizational communication between the Kingdom and the United States.
The artistic image of the novel “The Camel Corps” and the ease of framing it within an artistic scenario, activating the mechanism of “artistic transformation” and converting it from paper to television screens, cinema, and the digital space, is considered a successful investment in principle, as it accelerates the pace of investment in Saudi novels.
