أعلن رئيس الوزراء البريطاني كير ستارمر، اليوم، أن بريطانيا ستلغي زيادة مخططة على ضريبة وقود السيارات، وذلك ضمن جهود الحكومة لتخفيف ضغوط تكاليف المعيشة الناجمة جزئياً عن الصراع في الشرق الأوسط.
وأوضح ستارمر أمام البرلمان أن الخفض الحالي لضريبة الوقود بمقدار 5 بنسات لكل لتر، الذي كان من المقرر أن ينتهي مفعوله في شهر سبتمبر القادم، سيُمدد الآن حتى نهاية العام.
إعفاء من ضريبة الطرق
وأشار ستارمر إلى أن الحكومة ستمنح شركات الشحن البري إعفاءً من ضريبة الطرق لمدة 12 شهراً.
وكانت صحيفة «ذا صن» قد أفادت في وقت سابق أن وزيرة الخزانة البريطانية راشيل ريفز تعتزم هذا الأسبوع إلغاء الزيادة التي كانت الحكومة تخطط لفرضها على ضريبة الوقود، من دون أن توضح الصحيفة مصدر معلوماتها.
يذكر أن الحكومة البريطانية قد تعرضت لضغوط من أحزاب المعارضة، بما في ذلك حزب الإصلاح «ريفورم يو كيه»، والمحافظون، والديمقراطيون الليبراليون، للتراجع عن الزيادة، بعد ارتفاع أسعار الطاقة نتيجة الصراع في الشرق الأوسط.
British Prime Minister Keir Starmer announced today that Britain will cancel a planned increase in fuel duty, as part of the government’s efforts to alleviate the cost of living pressures partially caused by the conflict in the Middle East.
Starmer explained before Parliament that the current fuel duty cut of 5 pence per liter, which was set to expire in September, will now be extended until the end of the year.
Road Tax Exemption
Starmer noted that the government will grant road freight companies a 12-month exemption from road tax.
The Sun newspaper had previously reported that British Treasury Secretary Rachel Reeves intends to cancel the increase that the government was planning to impose on fuel duty this week, without specifying the source of its information.
It is worth mentioning that the British government has faced pressure from opposition parties, including the Reform UK party, the Conservatives, and the Liberal Democrats, to reverse the increase following the rise in energy prices due to the conflict in the Middle East.
