كشفت عائلة الأيقونة الفرنسية الفنانة بريجيت باردو عن سبب وفاتها بأواخر ديسمبر الماضي عن عمر يناهز 91 عاما في منزلها بجنوب فرنسا.
معاناة مع السرطان
وقال زوجها، برنارد دورمال، في تصريحات إعلامية، توفيت باردو إثر معاناة مع السرطان بعد خضوعها لعمليتين جراحيتين، وأضاف: «لقد كانت بكامل وعيها ومهتمة بمصير الحيوانات حتى اللحظة الأخيرة».
مراسم خاصة
وأقيمت مراسم الجنازة لباردو، التي كانت أيقونة الشاشة في الستينات، في تمام الساعة الحادية عشرة صباحا، بمراسم خاصة في مدينة «سان تروبيه».
وبُثت المراسم مباشرة عبر شاشات ضخمة نُصبت في ميناء سان تروبيه وساحتين في البلدة الصغيرة، ما أتاح للسكان والمعجبين متابعة وداعها.
سفيرة متألقة
وقالت البلدية الأسبوع الماضي: «ستظل بريجيت باردو مرتبطة للأبد بسان تروبيه، التي كانت أبرز سفرائها تألقا. لقد طبعت تاريخ مدينتنا بوجودها وشخصيتها وهالتها».
واستقرت باردو منذ عقود في فيلتها المطلة على البحر، واعتزلت العمل السينمائي في عام 1973 وهي في التاسعة والثلاثين من عمرها، بعد مسيرة دولية شملت أكثر من عشرين فيلما.
وبرزت لاحقا كناشطة في حقوق الحيوان، حيث أسست وأدارت مؤسسة مكرسة لحمايتها.
ورغم انسحابها من صناعة السينما، ظلت شخصية عامة حاضرة ومثيرة للجدل غالبا عبر عقود من النشاط الكبير في حقوق الحيوان. ودفنت باردو في ما يُعرف بـ «المقبرة البحرية»، التي يرقد فيها والداها أيضا. وتُعد هذه المقبرة المطلة على البحر المتوسط مثوى أخيرا لعدة شخصيات ثقافية، بما في ذلك المخرج روجر فاديم، زوج باردو الأول، الذي أخرج فيلمها الشهير «خلق الله المرأة»، وهو الدور الذي جعل منها نجمة عالمية.
The family of the French icon, artist Brigitte Bardot, revealed the reason for her death in late December at the age of 91 in her home in southern France.
Struggle with Cancer
Her husband, Bernard Dorman, stated in media remarks that Bardot passed away after a struggle with cancer following two surgeries. He added, “She was fully aware and concerned about the fate of animals until the very last moment.”
Private Ceremony
The funeral for Bardot, who was a screen icon in the 1960s, was held at 11 a.m. in a private ceremony in the city of “Saint-Tropez.”
The ceremony was broadcast live on large screens set up at the Saint-Tropez harbor and in two squares in the small town, allowing residents and fans to follow her farewell.
Brilliant Ambassador
The municipality stated last week: “Brigitte Bardot will forever be linked to Saint-Tropez, where she was its most brilliant ambassador. She has left her mark on the history of our city with her presence, personality, and aura.”
Bardot had settled for decades in her villa overlooking the sea and retired from the film industry in 1973 at the age of thirty-nine, after an international career that included more than twenty films.
She later emerged as an animal rights activist, founding and managing a foundation dedicated to their protection.
Despite her withdrawal from the film industry, she remained a public figure, often controversial, through decades of significant activism in animal rights. Bardot was buried in what is known as the “marine cemetery,” where her parents are also laid to rest. This cemetery overlooking the Mediterranean Sea is the final resting place for several cultural figures, including director Roger Vadim, Bardot’s first husband, who directed her famous film “And God Created Woman,” a role that made her a global star.
